Federal Grants

As a starter, you may be required to fill out FAFSA, which is necessary when applying for a federal grant such as the Pell grant or Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant. A Pell Grant is a need-based grant that is awarded to students depending on their financial need and the cost of the school. The maximum amount for a Pell Grant the year 2010-11 is $5,550.

The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) is typically granted to undergraduate students who show extraordinary monetary requirement. It grants $100 to $4000 a year to needy students based on their financial need and the school fee.

However, usually federal grant money is not enough to pay for the school expenses and one may need to look for other options.
